2/18/1937 Busman's Honeymoon

February 18, 1937.  This was the publication date for Busman's Honeymoon, Dorothy L. Sayers' last novel about Lord Peter Wimsey and his gal pal Harriet Vane.  Okay, his newlywed wife. It orignated as a play Sayers co-wrote.

She had already run Lord Peter through ten novels and was clearly ready to write something more important, like the theology books her fans had been clamoring for.  Or maybe they hadn't.

1/10/1931 BBC gets the Scoop

January 10, 1931.  On this day a new serial appeared on BBC radio.  The Scoop was a twelve-part story with each chapter written and read by a  member of the Detection Club.  Dorothy L. Sayers started the game on this night, followed a week later by Agatha Christie.  Among the best known names that followed were Ronald Knox, Anthony Berkeley and E.C. Bentley.

2/8/1930 The Documents in the Case are closed

February 8, 1930.  This date saw the completion of an unusual collaboration.  Mystery writer Dorothy L. Sayers and physician/novelist Robert Eustace completed their epistolary novel The Documents in the Case.  

While the book consists mainly of letters, there is a packet of evidence for the reader to examine.  Eustace provided the main plot idea and the medical data.  Sayers did most of the writing.  It was her only mystery novel not to feature Lord Peter Wimsey.

10/15/1936 Lord Peter Wimsey becomes a daddy

October 15, 1936.  According to Sayers' notes for Thrones, Dominations (finished by Jill Paton Walsh) Bredon Wimsey, the first child of Lord Peter Wimsey and his wife, the former Harriet Vane, was born on this date.  They had two more sons, Paul and Roger.
