The FX series Justified was based on the short story "Fire In The Hole," although the hero, Raylan Givens, had been a minor character in some of Leonard's novels. Like so many of his works it is a sort of modern Western, beginning with a shootout that sends a bad guy to the morgue and Deputy Marshal Givens into exile in his native Kentucky. Perhaps one reason for the success was the bracelets the producers passed out to everyone in the first season with the message: What Would Elmore Do?
