November 20, 1920. Author John Gardner was born on this day. That was the English John Gardner, not the
American one. Gardner invented a character named Boysie Oakes, a cowardly, violence-hating spy. He then went on to extend the works of two British authors: Doyle's Professor Moriarty, and Fleming's James Bond. In fact, he wrote more Bond novels then the other guy.
